1910 Buick Model F Tourer description:
At the wheel is Alan Eickstaedt's grandfather, Joe Jellen, in Spooner, Wisconsin in 1915. He bought the car from his brother John in Detroit. Joe's wife Teresa holds baby Andy, next to Ann and Frank. Ann, Alan's aunt, lived to age 91, and Frank is still with us. They were on their way to Canada where Joe had a farm. The trip took ages -- no paved roads, no gas stations. Fuel was bought at feed or grocery stores on the way. They camped or slept in churches; locks on buildings were rare and if a place was open they felt they could safely stay there. At one point they crossed a river on a railroad trestle rather than go a long way around. Joe sold the car in Canada and Joe bought a team of horses with the money. But they returned home by train. Thanks, Alan!
